Vision Airlines Plans Service to Grand Bahama Island from Five U.S. Cities
Vision Airlines has signed an agreement with the Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board to begin service to Grand Bahama Island in November.
The airline’s flights will originate from Fort Lauderdale, Louisville, Kentucky; Richmond, Virginia; Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina; and Baltimore/Washington International Airport. Additionally, direct flights (one-stop, no change of plane) will be available from Northwest Florida Regional Airport, which serves the Florida Gulf Coast resort cities of Destin and Fort Walton Beach.
Vision Airlines says it will begin the new services during the week of November 14, 2011.
Richmond, Raleigh/Durham and Baltimore/Washington will also be new network destinations for Vision Airlines when it launches service from these U.S. cities to Grand Bahama Island International Airport (IATA code FPO).
Freeport is the main city on Grand Bahama Island and is the second-largest city in The Bahamas. Grand Bahama International Airport is one of two Bahamian airports that have US Customs and Immigration pre-clearance facilities.
Fares will start from $99 round-trip plus taxes from Fort Lauderdale and from $149 each way (plus taxes) from the other cities. Vision also plans to offer package rates, with four-day/three-night packages starting from $299 per person plus taxes, based on double occupancy of the hotel room.
“These new flights will help to revitalize the tourism economy for Grand Bahama Island. The Island is gorgeous and there is so much for a visitor to enjoy, including world-class bone fishing, a variety of eco-tourism opportunities, beautiful beaches, great watersports, golf and fantastic shopping and dining,” says David Meers, Vision Airlines’ chief operating officer.
“Grand Bahama Island has always been a great destination but getting there has become a very expensive and time-consuming process,” adds Meers. “Our new non-stop, low-fare flights will make getting to Grand Bahama Island easy and affordable. Our public/private partnership with the tourism board is a very good model and one that we have used successfully in Florida.”
