Praxis I and Harry K. Wong | Stir Up the World

Muschla and an MLK Jr. poster!  I created a “Teaching!” wishlist on amazon.com, mostly comprised of posters.  I’ve got my eye on a really cool Abraham Lincoln print.  Yes, I know what you’re thinking: “Elsa, teaching is much more than hanging up posters and writing your last name all pretty on a whiteboard.” .  I’m beginning to realize that.

During my application process I read a LOT of teaching books, and this may seem obvious, but I think I’m going to have the hardest time with classroom management.  I read Harry K. Wong’s the First Days of School

Welcome to TFA! We received Harry Wong’s book during new teacher orientation…I found it useful, but I found Teach Like A Champion by Doug Lemov to be much more comprehensive and in-depth. What grade level are you teaching? In my short teaching career, I have found that routine is the key to classroom management. It’s evident every time my class has some sort of change to their routine or schedule…they go haywire. I am also not mega-strict, but I am firm and fair with them. Classroom management has been the easiest part of teaching for me this year. Hopefully, everything else will fall into place by the start of my 2nd year. Hope this was helpful!
