The Steve Jobs Formula and Why It Works
Those of us who lived and worked in the glorious, adventurous era of computing that was the late 1970s and early '80s have a different perspective. I was a consultant and developer before I became a journalist in 1984. My colleagues from that time and I frame the iPhone and iPad in the broader context of a bigger history. The iPhone, I've seen and heard over the past several hours, has changed people's lives.
Maybe. But what has truly made Apple successful, as a longer-range view of history will reveal, is a set of best practices, not any single gadget or an audio-cassette-ready philosophy on life.Steve Jobs has learned these principles and practices by trial and error, but it has become the most brilliant physician. And the fact that he and his company performed on these principles and capitalized on them, and no other American company in the industry in the last quarter century has done the same, is the largest take-away in the recent history of the U.S. company.
Steve Jobs has shown throughout his career has not been excellence, genius, brilliance, determination, or one of the traits that are applied to free him today, as if we were writing his obituary. Jobs is not gone, and it has something to say about it, it will not be for long. What he has shown business lessons to practice for maximum effect.
1. Do all this single platform. In 1985, the board of Apple Steve Jobs was ousted as CEO of Apple. I covered this story. It was easy because Apple at that time was screaming for attention.I was a reporter for a tabloid-oriented PCs that computer stores in 20 states continued their checkout counters, and Apple called me because he needed the attention.
The history, the people at Apple told me ("all on the merits, not to print or quote us, please, but when you do your analysis, here are the conclusions that you draw" ), was that it was time for Apple to expand and diversify its product range and become a real business. I won't waste any time with new photos as I basically got the deck, took it out of the incredibly well packed box, hooked it up to power and tested it... then put it back into the box and put it on the shelf. Honestly, the deck is in fantastic shape and it's killing me to sell it. Note that, as described in the original post, this head unit has a tuner that is set to Japanese frequencies. I called McIntosh and they say that there is supposed to be a way to switch them back to US frequencies, but I was not able to get it to switch using their instructions. I'd be happy to provide the instructions to anyone purchasing this deck, but please understand that I'm selling this unit as a J-spec model as I certainly couldn't get the thing to switch to US frequencies. I will include an FM converter that will allow you to tune US frequencies (although you'll have to do some math to lock in the right frequency.
