Alan Jay Kaufman , chairman, president and CEO of Kaufman Financial Group, received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 Michigan and Northwest Ohio Award in the business services category. According to Ernst & Young LLP, the award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

Services

eTitle Commercial recently appointed Bryan Melvin III as corporate services counsel. With more than 30 years of experience as a title attorney in the commercial title industry, Melvin will generate and implement eTitle Commercial's business development strategies, work closely with customers and oversee commercial closings.

Law

Thomas R. McAskin recently joined Butzel Long as counsel and will practice out of the firm's Bloomfield Hills office. McAskin retired as vice president and chief legal officer at Beaumont Health System in January. He has served as a member of Beaumont's executive committee, leadership council, management committee, as assistant secretary of Beaumont's board of directors and on many other hospital and medical staff committees.

Insurance

Maryanne B. Foster recently rejoined the law firm Plunkett Cooney as an insurance coverage attorney.

A member of the firm's Bloomfield Hills office, Foster represents and counsels insurance companies in insurance coverage matters arising from claims involving bad faith, construction defects, mass torts, environmental, defective manufacturing and/or products, asbestos, mold, Chinese drywall, personal and advertising injuries, employers liability and errors and omissions.

Finance

Gregory Bixby has been named chief information officer at Troy's Talmer Bank and Trust. Bixby joins the team with experience in strategic executive management. He will lead aspects of developing and implementing operational and technological initiatives.

Marketing

Michael Wright will add the responsibilities of chief of staff to his role as Wayne State University's vice president for marketing and communications. He will report directly to Wayne State President Allan Gilmour.

Wright has managed marketing, public relations, media relations, advertising, publications production and Web activities since he joined Wayne State in July 2007 as associate vice president. He formerly worked at Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co.

Burlington Chartered Accountant Elected to Profession's Governing ...

TORONTO, ONTARIO–(Marketwire – June 17, 2011) - Burlington Chartered Accountant and prominent business leader Michael Banks has been re-elected to 2011-2012 governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.

Michael is a Partner with BDO Canada LLP in Burlington. A Chartered Accountant since 1997, Michael serves the accounting and assurance needs of his clients who operate primarily in the manufacturing, leasing and automotive sectors. He is well known in the GTA leasing community and has extensive experience working with both originators and issuers in vehicle and equipment lease securitizations. Michael is a member of the Canadian Finance and Leasing Association and also serves on its Accounting Advisory Committee.

Michael has participated on the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton and currently serves on the Board of the Burlington Community Foundation as its Treasurer.
