Phillip Island Nature Parks' Volunteer Program Get involved and protect Little ...
A unique volunteer program initiated by Australias leading eco-tourism not-for-profit organisation, Phillip Island Nature Parks, offers individuals, families, groups and holiday makers the opportunity to work beside rangers and researchers as they undertake environmental work to protect and preserve the unique flora and fauna on Phillip Island including the world famous Little Penguins.
The program is an exciting opportunity for those with a particular interest in ecotourism and the environment and who want to do something which will have a lasting positive impact on our environment. The volunteer package includes two fully supervised days of volunteer work, two night stay at The Island Accommodation, entry into the Nature Parks attractions plus a Nature Parks Volunteer badge. The perfect mid-week getaway or weekend activity!
The type of volunteer work varies depending on the time of year, but includes rehabilitation and revegetation work to preserve native plants and biodiversity, planting Indigenous species, seed collection and propagation, vermin control, bird (Hooded Plover and Shearwater) protection, working at the Koala Conservation Centre and on Churchill Island Heritage Farm.
Only 90 minutes from Melbourne, Phillip Island Nature Parks is home to the number one natural wildlife attraction in Australia the Penguin Parade.

As if the island’s abundance in natural, tranquil beauty wasn’t enough, a whole selection of activities and attractions are available for you to choose from to occupy your time on Phillip Island.
Though the island’s local population consists of approximately 7,000 residents only, there is a wide range of Phillip Island accommodation available to provide for the flocks of holiday goers that the major tourist spot draws in regularly.
Phillip Island accommodations are situated in the various towns on the island, with most based in Cowes, the major town and administrative center of the area; the variety of lodgings ranges from luxurious hotels and beachside resorts to quaint, homely B&B’s or cottages and budget-friendly caravan parks. With each different kind of Phillip Island accommodation comes a different way to experience your stay on the island.
There are also plenty of fully furnished homes available for holiday rentals and make for the ideal Phillip Island accommodation for families or holiday goers travelling together in a large group. However, houses for holiday rentals don’t appear in community listings; if you’re interested in renting a house for your vacation, you have to refer to Phillip Island real estate agencies to search for and book a home.
Getting your Phillip Island accommodation sorted out early gives you more time to plan the other details of your stay. The island offers a myriad of fun activities, such as fishing, surfing, scuba diving, and boating. Island walks are also extremely popular, especially in Cape Woolamai, which will give you the opportunity to witness stunning panoramic views of the island.
Nature lovers are sure to fall in love with Phillip Island, with its picturesque scenery and breathtaking views. The island also boasts of several attractions that fans of wildlife will enjoy; a treetop walk in the Koala Conservation Center allows you to survey koalas and native island birds from a higher vantage point. The most famous attraction, the Penguin Parade, takes place on Summerland Beach and consists of hundreds and hundreds of tiny fairy penguins journeying from the sea back to their homes in the sand dunes at dusk everyday. You can survey the magnificent sight of the little penguins emerging from the waters against the backdrop of the sun setting from elevated viewing platforms, which provide excellent views of the penguins while maintaining distance from them so as not to cause disturbance.
