Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge and Jackie Kennedy, the former first lady of the United States have a lot in common when it comes to fashion. Oscar de la Renta ruffle always in style: Clotheslines

In this time of Goth and fashion noir, Oscar de la Renta knows how to make clothes that are not afraid to be happy. I don't know this for a fact, but I think he has designed for more first ladies than any other living designer. Jacqueline Kennedy

New York Fashion: Central Park Style « FrockOn

It’s a safe bet for spotting the fabulous and fashionable of NYC; you’re just a few blocks from both Bloomingdale’s and Bergdorf Goodman, two of the world’s most famous stores.

One particularly iconic and fashionable figure associated with the park was commemorated within the grounds in 1994. The large lake in the north of the park was renamed the Jacqueline Onassis Kennedy reservoir in memory of one it’s most sartorially savvy fans.

Jackie O was not only one of Central Park’s most legendary lovers but also an icon for her nation and a pinup of 1950’s elegance. The sweetheart of the States, her brief and tragic role as first lady places her firmly within the ranks of the Kennedy dynasty, the name synonymous with American power and politics.

The idyllic Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis reservoir is everything was everything I expected. Tranquil and luscious with musicians nestled around the banks, earning a buck under a canopy of branches and skyscrapers. The double skyline is strikingly familiar from film and television and, apparently, Jackie O’s preferred jogging spot.

So how did she do it?

First off, pearls. I think of Jackie and I think of rows of opalescence poised around her neck . They represent femininity, and at the same time, boldness and natural beauty, everything Jackie was able to embody. Classically appropriate for a First Lady but also a staple of the monochrome movement that dominated the era. Politically proper and right on trend – girls take note.

Her oversized shades had a similar effect. Wildly popular once endorsed by Jackie herself, but also a symbol for her struggle for privacy under the glare of the spotlight and a curious nation, on the cusp of  a media revolution.
