Buffalo Wild Wings plans new restaurant on Spartanburg's west side

The company is planning to build a restaurant at 1494 W.O. Ezell Blvd., behind Olive Garden and Golden Corral.
Site plans filed with the city show the restaurant will be 6,000 square feet, with another 1,400 square feet in its patio area. It will be able to accommodate about 245 customers inside and 84 outside and have 104 parking spaces. The restaurant will not impinge on Friendship Baptist Church's 2-acre cemetery on the property, according to site plans.
A few years ago, the property drew interest from a developer looking to put in a 200-room hotel near WestGate Mall. Apparently, the developer passed on that project.
Attempts to reach Buffalo's representatives by phone last week were unsuccessful.
But, as of Friday, the company had an opening for a restaurant manager position in Spartanburg posted on its website. The closest existing Buffalo Wild Wings is at 1125 Woodruff Road in Greenville.
This will not be the first Buffalo's restaurant to operate on the west side. Buffalo's Cafe opened in 2003 at 1451 W.O. Ezell Blvd. The eatery was popular with customers for its affordable burgers and sandwiches, as well as its bar.
In August 2007, the restaurant's owner Mike McCracken dropped the Buffalo's name and teamed up with local barbecue enthusiasts Red Bordner and Kevin Cowan to re-launch the location as the NASCAR-themed Kick Back Cove. That venture failed in May 2008 and the building has sat vacant ever since.
The west side has seen some significant growth this year in its mix of restaurant and retail developments on W.O. Ezell Boulevard across from the Dorman Centre.
New Jersey-based retail chain Toys R Us Inc. reopened its Spartanburg store last week at Westgate Village shopping center at 1508 W.O. Ezell Blvd. in the former Circuit City space. The 46,000-square-foot store is part of a pilot program that will combine the company's Toys R Us and Babies R Us concepts under one roof.
Following that retailer's lead, trendy discount apparel giant Old Navy is in the process of moving from WestGate Crossing to the strip mall, which is also home to Office Depot, Dollar General and Jack in the Box. Earlier this year, LongHorn Steakhouse moved into the 7,000-square-foot space that was the former home of Pier 1 Imports.
Denver-based Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. announced earlier this month it will build a new restaurant attached to a 7,000-square-foot west-side strip mall that is under construction on the former Palmetto Bank site at 1490 W.O. Ezell Blvd. New York-based Aspen Dental, a national dental franchise with 240 locations in 20 states, plans to build a 3,200-square-foot office at the center.
